Patriotic Group aids Utah drive for $5000 fund
Public Offers Suggestions of Silver Design for New Cruiser

The fund for the purchase of a silver service for the new cruiser Salt Lake City was swelled Friday when the Sons of the American Revolution donated $100, President Malcolm A. Keyser presenting the donation to E. O. Howard, treasurer of the committee raising the fun while Newell B. Dayton, S.A.R. treasurer, looks on.

The Sons of the American Revolution, as befits a patriotic organization, is wholeheartedly behind the drive to purchase the silver service, said Mr. Keyser.

The committee intends to raise $5000 from the general public for the purchase of the service through the Leyson-Pearsall Co. C. R. Persall, manager, has announced that the design will be chosen from suggestions submitted by the public, inasmuch as the public is providing the gift.

City's Elaborate Gift to Cruiser Namesake

Designs for the silver service set which Salt Lake community effort has purchased for the new cruiser, Salt Lake City, have been received by C. R. Pearsall, manager of Leyson-Pearsall Co., which arranged for the set from the Gorham Co., of Providence, RI. The Gorham Co. designed and will make the set.

Fifty-four pieces in all are included - twenty-four goblets, twenty-four service plates, two water pitchers, two trays and two candalabra. Each piece will bear double seals, one of the official Salt Lake City seal and the other that of the United States Navy.

A unique effect will be etchings of fifty-four different scens, depiting Utah's industrial and scenic advantages.

Pictures of the sheep, cattle, mining, smelting, railroad, aviation and other industries, with scenes of Great Salt Lake, the L.D.S. Temple of Utah Copper mine at Bingham Zion National Park, Bryce canyon and many others will be etched upon the pieces.
