I had a good talk with Leland Larson the other day, he was a fireman on the SLC from December 1940 to December 1942; he was part of the deck crew too, handling the ship's boats. So he was on the ship for the cruise to Australia, Pearl Harbor, the raids on the Marshall Islands, the Doolittle raid, and the battle of Cape Esperance.
