Richard D. Schatz passed away on Nov. 9th, 1999. Information from daughter in law, Marguerite Schatz
Dear Ms. Eskew, I am the daughter-in-law of Richard Schatz Schatz, Richard Dale S2c, 1943 S1c, USN, WWII SLC Deck Log Oct. 1943 Paper found in Memorabilia states that he was a member of the 9th Division of the SLC States he was from New England, ND. who served on the U. S. S. Salt Lake City. Richard has been deceased for some time now (November 9, 1999) and I have recently started a project to digitize all of the photos that are in my husband's and my possession. One of the things I came across was Richard's photos from his time in the navy. There are well over one hundred photos of his time on the U. S. S. Salt Lake City with what I assume are his ship mates. The photos have no dates and no identifying names on the back of the photos. I had considered disposing of them as I have no knowledge of any of the persons pictured (with the acceptation of those that contain an image of Richard in them), I just couldn't make myself throw them out and got to thinking that perhaps someone somewhere might be interested in having this photos so I started to search on the internet for the ship and found the web page of http://ussslcca25.com/ .
